Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Austin, TX. The Banquet Chef will oversee food preparation and presentation for banquet events, ensuring high-quality standards are met. Responsibilities include supervising kitchen staff, coordinating with the culinary team to create exceptional menu offerings, and maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations. The Banquet Chef will also assist in managing kitchen operations, monitor inventory levels, and contribute to a seamless dining experience for guests. Strong leadership and organizational skills are essential for this role.

Essential Functions

Operations & Culinary Execution
Oversee all banquet stations to ensure consistent, high-quality food preparation.
Ensure timely and accurate execution of all Banquet Event Orders.
Maintain proper portion control, presentation standards, and recipe adherence.
Monitor line efficiency and adjust workflows to meet service demands.

Leadership & Staff Management

Supervise, train, coach, cooks, prep cooks, and stewards.
Lead by example by maintaining professionalism, teamwork, and a positive kitchen culture.
Assist with scheduling, performance reviews, and corrective action when necessary.
Support onboarding of new culinary team members and enforce kitchen standards.

Inventory, Cost & Compliance

Assist in monitoring food costs, labor costs, and waste control.
Ensure proper receiving, storage, rotation (FIFO), and labeling of all food items.
Maintain compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards (local, state, and company).
Participate in weekly inventory and ordering as directed by the Executive Chef.

Menu & Culinary Development

Contribute ideas for menu innovation, seasonal dishes, and specials.
Assist with recipe testing and standardization.
Ensure team members are trained on new items or changes.

Equipment & Safety

Ensure all kitchen equipment is clean, functional, and properly maintained.
Address or report maintenance issues promptly.
Promote a safe working environment and adherence to all safety protocols.

What You’ll Do

As a Host, you’ll set the tone for the guest experience from the moment they arrive. Responsibilities include:

Greet and welcome guests, creating a warm and polished first impression
Manage reservations, answer calls, and coordinate guest seating based on service flow
Maintain control of the host stand during high-volume periods
Introduce guests to their server and ensure a smooth transition of service
Stay informed on menus, daily specials, promotions, and hotel information
Assist with light service duties, including making coffee, running food, and supporting table resets
Support opening and closing tasks while maintaining cleanliness and organization of the front-of-house
Uphold grooming, uniform, and Hotel ZaZa service standards, including safety protocol

What We’re Looking For

Previous host or food & beverage experience preferred
Strong communication and guest service skills

Prepare and maintain your station for service, ensuring all supplies are stocked and organized
Set tables with clean, pressed linens, china, silverware, and glassware to brand standards
Maintain cleanliness of service areas, including coffee machines, tea stations, and side stands
Ensure beverage stations are fully stocked and ready for service
Assist with dining room setup, including furniture arrangement and floor cleanliness
Provide attentive and memorable service, and support team members during service
Remove extra place settings and maintain a clean, polished table throughout the guest experience
Follow all grooming and uniform standards, including wearing the Z-pin
Complete required Certification within 30 days of hire and maintain recertification as needed
Adhere to all hotel safety policies and procedures, using proper equipment at all times
